Gold Vanity Dresser

Well I finally did it.  I finally finished a vanity that I had stored for about a year. There are many reasons NOT to store something that long before finishing it. Topping the list is the fact that ultimately something gets ruined or broken.  R.I.P Mirror.

I decided on gold for this Vanity.

Most times when using a metallic paint, I like to tone down the brightness with a glaze. I had a glaze that I used for my kitchen cabinet doors already mixed and stored. It’s a great brown.

Paint on the glaze with a brush and wipe it off with a cloth.  Gold Antique Vanity 006
Now it’s a nice rich gold.

Add some great scrapbooking paper and modge podge.

Enter lonely, hideous, banged-up stool. This poor friendless fella was hiding in the dark corner of a Goodwill Store, ashamed, I’m sure of its dated clothing.

I took off fabric # 1 and was left with this peach material, but I ended up taking that off as well.  Good thing I did. There was a thick layer of dust under it. I actually stripped it to the bare wood underneath.  Oh, and don’t forget to add batting to cover the foam piece.

Get ready for a LOT of after shots.. Accessories will probably be different in every picture.

Notice the aging of the paper on the drawer fronts.

I decided to do nothing but clean the handles as I thought they were perfect for the piece just as they were.

Each drawer was lined with paper.

For the middle section, I made a collage of all the paper I used for the drawer fronts and then added a piece of glass for protection.

My mother gave this little hand mirror to me.  She has had it for as long as I can remember.  It’s just perfect for this vanity.

It's All About Vanity

Since I posted my very first Vanity on here I've had overwhelming response.  It's really amazing what a comeback vanities have made.  More and more women are looking for one for that special corner in their 'boudoirs' !  It's really no surprise that something so pretty and so feminine would never go away completely.
Here is another I was working on for a Client.  She wanted this for her teenaged daughter who is into those pretty and feminine things.

Here is what I had to work with.  An ordinary writing desk.  Ordinary yes, but still very nice in it's own right. (and REEEEALLLY GLOSSY) auughhhh!
You can't beat a good sander and bonding primer!

After it was painted and sealed, came the fun part,
dressing it up nice in preparation for..

her Photoshoot !

I opted for simple old antique handles.
The brown/rusted colour matches the skeleton keys under the glass.

She's even beautiful on the inside.

and a little Vignette
(all ready for Funky Junk Donna's Vignette Party this weekend  ;-)

Ladies Writing Desk/Vanity

I LOVE making these ladies writing desks/vanities.  This one is more of a ladies writing desk, but can be used either way.  It started as a plain desk.

With a bit.. ok a LOT of work...
some appliques ..

and some elbow grease..
(make sure you have vice clamps..
or you can just stand there and hold it for 1/2 hour like I did)

Layers of paint, crackle, more paint and glaze...
and of course the real beauty is on the top
A collection of vintage Paris images....
Se Magnifique!!

A lot of work... but worth the effort I think, don't you?

From Old School Desk to Bedroom Beauty

This cute little vanity started as an old painted orange, flip-top desk with square legs. I changed the legs added some applique's, crackle paint, trim and an old shaving mirror. Under the glass I printed off some vintage postcards I found on the Internet. It's really a darling little piece!
