Bookcase to Shoe Cabinet

I'm thankful that my entire family uses the side entrance by the garage to enter the house. That way my front entrance stays clean and tidy. But the garage entrance ? YIKES. Shoes everywhere. Here is a no nonsense, truthful look at what it looked like in all it's glory! (No I don't normally make smoothies in my side entrance, but the blender was sitting there waiting for the next person to go to the basement to take it there, which means ME. I hadn't yet brought it downstairs, so yep, there it is too!

I found a bookcase on sale. It was a display model.
It was the perfect size to house all that junk.

It was in pretty good shape except for few scratches. I could have kept it this colour but that particular entrance doesn't get much light, so I lightened it up and added some doors.

That area is clean and tidy now.
The surprising thing is...the kids actually open it and use it.
Hooray~!
(missing baseboard currently being replaced by a nice 7" baseboard)

I love it

It's not old, it's not crusty, it's not rusty. It's just a lovely addition to my kitchen.
I like it so much I just thought I'd take a picture of it.

Bench Planter

This really simple idea is completely adorable and completely do-able.
I think this might find a place in my newly renovated backyard! (not that it's done or anything..I'm simply thinking about renovating.. aughh.. so much to do!)

Revamped Dresser

A while back I bought a really great dresser from the Salvation Army store. It was in great condition. I know all the anti-paintists out there will cringe that I actually painted this but at least this piece is throughly enjoyed in it's new improved state.

This is the before
(dresser and night stand)

And the 'after' in Jessica's room
(don't mind all the wires and unpainted quarter round,
it's a work in progress)

Jess just happend to bring home these amazing roses
as I was fixing her room

Oh and you noticed the Teacup Lamp??
Yep, I'm becoming quite the Pro at it now.

Treasure Envy

I was at a family function over the weekend in Collingwood, Ontario. My cousin and her husband have a magnificent home right on the water. I always love going there. They finished some projects and added a few VERY interesting finds! John is a vintage lover and a treasure hunter as well.
I managed to take some pictures of a few of the additions.
I'm SO jealous John!

This beautiful vintage stove just happened to land in his lap.
(I have to go searching the very bowels of the city for things.)

Interesting story behind this little shack.
Yes.... it IS an outhouse. It was down the beach from their place, and when it was about to be demolished, John scooped it up. He stores his tools in there.

I just love it.

..and here is a beautiful, old chippy door
(that he didn't think I saw

behind the shed )

Well that's it for now.
Thanks John and Di.
It was amazing as usual
(Happy Birthday John!!)

Yard Sale Antique Scale

On the way back from a recent trip to the States I stopped off at a few yard sales. Honestly, the few stops I made there was SO much I wanted to bring back, just didn't have the room for it. But I did spot this antique scale. I fell in love with it and the price tag. $5
