Front Door Improvements

There are many ways to dress up your front door inside and out.

I painted the inside of our front door black a few years ago and I still love it.  It provides the right amount of contrast and interest for a small entryway.

Our entry with a white door looks lovely, but a little uninteresting.

Esthetically, the black door provides a nice balance.

Now on to the practical side of things.

Our house faces west.  The entire front of our house bakes in sunlight for hours each afternoon.  During our winter months that little bit of sun is a good thing, but during summer you can feel the heat pouring through the glass in and around the front door.  The other windows at the front of the house all have blinds which we keep closed during really sunny, hot days.

With the addition of a new curtain rod and some inexpensive Ikea curtains, the doorway becomes not only more elegant but certainly more energy efficient.

Simple, inexpensive and functional. 

When needed the curtains can be closed completely to block out the sun coming in from the door window.

As we mostly use the garage entrance to the house, the curtains can remain closed for as long as needed.

A delightful improvement I’d say.
